From a first glance, most people are under the impression that college towns have few redeeming qualities outside of the local campus. What they don’t know, is that each small town has its own charm that makes it unique; you just have to know what to look for.
Stillwater, Oklahoma is a town known for sporting America’s brightest orange, hosting the world’s biggest homecoming celebration, and boasting an abundance of cowboy spirit. Outside of the beautiful Oklahoma State University campus, students may have a hard time coming up with things to do with their friends or significant other in the town of Stillwater.
Contrary to popular belief, there is more to do in Stillwater than driving around and stopping by the nearest Sonic drive-thru. While late-night Sonic runs are hard to beat, there’s no shame in wanting a little more variety in the activities you do with your friends and loved ones. Whether you’re new to town and don’t know what to do or you just want to spice things up in your normal routine, this list will help you come up with some fun things to do in Stillwater. Grab a date (or a good friend) and check out these hidden gems to get the most out of your time living in Stillwater!
Spend some time outdoors at Lake McMurty by going hammocking, stargazing, kayaking, swimming, hiking, or playing disc golf! Lake McMurtry is known for its beautiful hiking trails and a plethora of outdoor activities.
Believe it or not, you can find one of the best views of campus on the top of the Wentz parking garage. Go watch the sunrise or sunset and take pictures with your date at this unique spot on campus.
Take a picnic to the Stillwater botanical gardens or the docks at Boomer lake. You can even take inspiration from the famous Ranchers charcuterie board by turning your picnic into a charcuterie night!
Go thrift shopping! Pick out an outfit for your date and let them pick one out for you. Take it one step further by going out to a restaurant or having a goofy photoshoot in your outfits.
Visit Lost Creek Safari and interact face-to-face with some exotic animals. At this USDA Certified Animal park, visitors get the chance to get up close and personal with a variety of rare wildlife.
Give back to the community by volunteering at the Stillwater Humane Society. Not only do you get to feel good about yourself for helping out a nonprofit, but you also get to play with some adorable furry friends!
Take your date two-stepping or to a country concert at the Tumbleweed dancehall! Thursday nights are College Nights at the Tumbleweed. It is a fun opportunity to learn some line dancing or play pool and cornhole with your friends.
If you are craving sweets, consider stopping by Frios Gourmet Popsicles, Insomnia Cookies, the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, or Blue Spruce Ice Cream Shop.
Get some caffeine in your system by going on a coffee date to Aspen. or Balanced Coffee Co. If you’re not a coffee person, consider checking out the Oak or Fired Up Stilly for some amazing energy teas, shakes, or smoothies!
